It doesn't really tell you anything about the game though, you play with guns I guess? and doesn't show how the game differs from past entries, and if you aren't super familiar with the Christian/Buddhist bits it might not make much sense. Other great candidates in my opinion would be Kingdom Hearts III and Breath of the Wild but outside of those two, nothing really comes to mind. What do you think, Era? Am I alone in thinking this? Gearbox really played to the strengths of the series here and it's why I think the game has the best cover art this gen as far as big AAA games are concerned.

If you've never played a Borderlands game before, I'm sure your thoughts when seeing this cover went something along the lines of "Why is that half-naked weirdo in the mask holding that weird looking saw weapon? What's with the roses and the faces embedded on them? Why is there a bunch of guns behind him?" It's certainly something that wouldn't be pulled off nearly as well with any other franchise. In an age where cover art for big AAA games is rife with, it's great to see something a lot more stylized and *out there*, y'know? The wacky nature of the Borderlands games really serves to make cover art like the one I posted above all the more distinctive and interesting. I know most people don't really give a rats ass about the cover art for any given game anymore, but I think it's awesome that Gearbox and the people at 2K really went through extra lengths to ensure the final cover art we got was something truly special. Prior to the reveal of Borderlands 3, you'd have so many fans wondering what new gimmick they're going to do with the cover, and just wanting to see the damn thing for themselves. The Grand Theft Auto games are a fine example of this.
